Birthday wishes for customers: 30+ WhatsApp messages you can copy

For tailors and fashion designers in Nigeria · 8 minute read

A customer who hears from you on their birthday remembers you when the next occasion comes. For many of them, a birthday is also a reason to sew something new, so the message is not just manners. It is how repeat orders start.

Most birthday message lists online are written for big companies. They are polite, but they do not sound like a tailor talking to a customer on WhatsApp. These 32 messages do. Copy one, change the name, and send it from your own number.

Why a birthday message brings customers back

Customers choose a tailor they trust, and trust is partly about being remembered. A short message on their birthday tells them you see them as a person, not just a measurement. It also lands at the right time: people think about what to wear for their own birthday, a party, church, or a dinner with friends.

You do not need a long message or a big offer. You need their name, a warm line, and to send it on the right day.

Who should get which message?

Not every customer should get the same tone. Use this table to pick.

10 short and warm birthday wishes for customers

Use these for any customer, new or old. Replace [Name] and [Shop name].

8 warm messages for loyal and repeat customers

These say thank you for coming back, which is what a repeat customer wants to hear.

7 birthday messages with a small offer

Send one of these the next day, or on the same day only to customers who already order from you often. Keep the offer small and real, and say when it ends. A birthday is the easiest reason for a customer to want something new, so make it simple for them to say yes.

5 birthday wishes with a little Pidgin

For customers you already joke with. Do not use these for someone you have only met once. If you speak Yoruba, Igbo or Hausa with a customer, greet them in that language as well. They will notice and appreciate it.

2 birthday messages for a customer with an order in progress or a balance

This is the delicate one. The rule is simple: wish them well and leave money out. If they owe a balance, send the reminder on another day. Mixing the two turns a kind message into pressure. See our guide to polite payment reminder messages for that day.

When to send it, and how to remember birthdays

Send it on the day, in the morning. A message at 7 or 8am feels thoughtful. A message at midnight feels like a broadcast. WhatsApp cannot schedule a normal message for you, so set a phone alarm for the morning of each birthday.

The hard part is not the message. It is remembering the date. Three habits fix that:

  1. Ask at the first fitting. “When is your birthday?” is an easy question while you are holding the tape.
  2. Write it next to the measurements. If the date lives in a different notebook, you will not see it. You can also save the birthday inside the contact on your phone, and your calendar will remind you.
  3. Look once a week. Every Monday, check who has a birthday in the next seven days and send those messages as the days come.

If you use TailorDesk: you save a client’s birthday when you add them, and the Today screen lists the birthdays coming this week. The Greet button opens WhatsApp with a message already written. You can edit it and press send yourself, so it always comes from your own number. The app never sends anything on its own.

Do’s and don’ts

Frequently asked questions

Should I add a discount to a customer’s birthday message?

Not in the first message. Wish them first. If they reply warmly, or if they are a regular, send the offer the next day. Only offer what you can honour, and say when it ends.

When should I send a birthday message?

On the day, in the morning. If you are travelling or busy, send it the night before rather than late. A late message is better than none, but the morning feels most personal.

Should I send text, a voice note or call?

Text is fine for most customers. A voice note suits customers you are close to. Call only your best customers, and keep it short.

How do I personalise a message without sounding salesy?

Use their name and mention something real, like their last outfit or a wedding you dressed them for. Keep the offer for a second message, not the first.

How do I keep track of customer birthdays?

Ask at the first fitting, write the date next to their measurements, and check once a week. A phone contact with the birthday filled in, or a tailoring app that shows birthdays this week, does the remembering for you.

Never miss a customer’s birthday again

TailorDesk keeps every client’s birthday and measurements in one place, shows who you should greet this week, and lets you send the message from your own WhatsApp. Your customers do not install anything.
